Ritual for creativity & inspiration...

Jewellery designer & porcelain ceramicist, Kathleen Whitaker is best known for her simple geometric designs––most notably her original staple and sequin studs. Originally from New York City, Kathleen studied Russian literature and ceramics in New Orleans before moving to Los Angeles, where she developed her jewellery practice.
Kathleen’s work celebrates modern sculptural shapes & simplicity. Her namesake line is worn and loved by many, with a following that’s quickly spreading across the globe. Working exclusively in 14-karat solid gold, sterling silver and more recently with gem stones, her pieces are created for a lifetime of wear –– something which we greatly admire about Kathleen's design ethos.
Captured in her chic studio in downtown Los Angeles by Nastassia Brückin, we are excited to share Kathleen’s rituals for life + holiday season…

Ritual to rejuvenate...
A swim in the ocean, a lake or a saline pool.
Ritual with friends, family & loved ones...
Only permitted in cool temps, two big pots of fondue at a crowded table of close friends and acquaintances-on-the-way-to-becoming-close-friends.
Ritual for productivity & organisation...
Mercury Retrograde. It seems counter-intuitive but at a time when so much can (and surely will) go wrong, you're forced to slow down and get organised.
Ritual to create a sense of calm and order...
Cluttered house, cluttered mind. I keep home and work very paired down.
Ritual for the holiday season...
At work, we have a tradition of gift-giving to our retail partners. In a fast-moving, trend-driven industry, long-standing loyal patronage is in dwindling supply and I think it's necessary to take an opportunity to express gratitude for it. In earlier years, we'd gift small, beautiful artisanal things made by friends. Another year, I found out the astrological sign of recipients and gave each their correlating hand-embroidered zodiac handkerchief from the beautiful french linen company D. Portholt. But after a while, I realized that store owners and buyers are in the business of selecting and surrounding themselves with lovely possessions and they needn't more of it from us. So, last year we began a tradition of making a charitable donation in his/her name to the organisation of their choice.
