Ritual to rejuvenate...
I feel my most rejuvenated after surfing or walking along the beach and soaking in some heavily oxygenated sea air.
Introducing –– Bonnie Wright. A talented filmmaker, eco activist & friend of Sans. We love Bonnie for her intelligent directorial eye & passionate work with Greenpeace and Oxfam. Bonnie's directing pursuit springs from her experiences as an actor. Her directorial debut, 'Separate We Come, Separate We Go' (2012) which Bonnie conceived and wrote, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. An independent woman with values after our own heart, here we share Bonnie’s rituals for life.
Ritual to rejuvenate...
I feel my most rejuvenated after surfing or walking along the beach and soaking in some heavily oxygenated sea air.
Ritual with friends, family & loved ones...
I love cooking, the collaborative and creative process always takes me out of my mind and into the present moment with them.
Ritual to create a sense of calm and order...
My go to for regaining calm is making myself a cup of tea. Everything then seems manageable and joyful. I also love lighting incense and playing music like film scores by Dustin O’Halloran. In the evening a bath with essential oils is a winner.
Ritual for productivity & organisation...
List, I love making lists. I definitely get that from my mum. Turning my phone on airplane mode when I need to focus on a single task like script writing. Without realising we are welcoming in so many images and words through our phones and I find that can take me out of the world of my film.
Ritual for creativity & inspiration...
I have a big visual reference folder on my computer that I am always adding too. Often I will just scroll through it to get the inspiration flowing. If I am hitting a wall with my writing I will read, watch a movie or go for a walk.
"My love of storytelling and character took hold of me as a young actor, listening to the words and ideas of renowned directors. I was fascinated with just how I could use my voice, my reactions and expressions to bring their vision to life. Intrigued too by the artistry of everything that is created before an actor steps on set. I constantly asked the crew “What does that button do?” or “Why did you paint the sky green?”; I’m now so thankful I did - it was the beginning of my education and my passion."
"As a director, I want to make films which make the most fleeting moments and intimately felt emotions universal rather than lonely; the points in life where you think “maybe I’m the only one thinking this?” I want to the reveal emotions and beliefs which lie obscured by the barriers we put up, from fear of being judged or abandoned. Exploring themes which resonate with me; landscape, love and loss, redemption and the process of realisation, perfect or partial." –– Bonnie Wright
