A feast on the senses, the Savoury Sangria is a crisp compilation of the silly-season's leftover ingredients: half empty bottles of wine, gifted bubbles, and excess garden herbs. An easy recipe, made in one big jug, that will quench and satisfy your afternoon thirst.
2 lemons, washed and sliced
3 limes, washed and sliced
1 large green cucumber, sliced
1 cup fresh sage leaves
1 cup fresh basil leaves
1 750ml dry white wine (this can be a blend of left-overs)
2 cups sparkling water
2 cups ice
Combine the sliced lemons, limes, cucumber, mint, and basil in a large pitcher. Muddle to release some of the juices and natural herb oils. Pour in the wine. Stir and chill for around 20 minutes, letting the flavours meld. Stir again, then add ice, and top off with sparkling water. Serve immediately.
