Offering health & sex education, the practical and spiritual tools for pregnancy and delivery, Erica's approach to motherhood is simply to empower and to nurture.

We admire Erica's devotion to this phase is every mother's life, a journey that needs a tender hand, understanding and, of course, practical knowledge. Photographer Nastassia Bruckin visited Erica at her Los Angeles-based home to find out how this natural healer looks after herself...

A historian with a background in museum research and curation, Tara Mayer is known for reading artwork and objects as fluently as she does texts. For over a decade, she split her time between Paris and London and a few years ago she settled in Vancouver, where she currently works in the Department of History at the University of British Columbia. In a profession known to cultivate an introverted and single-minded commitment to intellectual achievement, Tara has been forging a wider path.

We know of few academics who’ve achieved such success in balancing the life of the mind with the nourishment of their own creative pursuits, wellbeing, and family. Her native Maui serves as a frequent and beloved retreat for family holidays and it’s here that we accompanied Tara for an afternoon swim with her daughter. We’re very excited to share these images and Tara’s rituals for life and wellbeing.

As part of our Sustenance celebrations this month, we interview Camille Becerra––legendary chef, mama to Paloma and all round magic woman. A New Jersey native, Camille is the director and executive chef at all-day eatery De Maria in Downtown New York City where her food showcases a commitment to wholesome, seasonal and local ingredients.

After studying macrobiotic cuisine and cooking for cancer patients in Philadelphia, Becerra moved to a Zen monastery in New Mexico, where she cooked vegetarian meals for the monks, sourcing ingredients from the on-premises garden. Now, with close to 20 years of restaurant experience, her passion for restaurant culture & kitchen life is a force to be reckoned with.

Driven to investigate the idea that the human digestive gut is a central hub for both societal and emotional cues, New York-based Lexie Smith realises her findings through a multitude of artistic outlets. By creating a combination of historical breads, delicately sculpted wooden tools and curating a space of culturally disturbing newspaper headlines, Lexie feeds her fascination with the relationship between our internal organs and our psychological state.
