Erica Chidi Cohen, Doula and Founder of LOOM

Aware of the fear, confusion, and physical demands motherhood can deliver, in-demand doula Erica Chidi Cohen has created LOOM: a safe, non-judgmental space that supports women through their journey from periods to fertility and pregnancy to parenting. Offering health & sex education, the practical and spiritual tools for pregnancy and delivery, Erica's approach to motherhood is simply to empower and to nurture.

We admire Erica's devotion to this phase is every mother's life, a journey that needs a tender hand, understanding and, of course, practical knowledge. Photographer Nastassia Bruckin visited Erica at her Los Angeles-based home to find out how this natural healer looks after herself...

Sasha Spielberg, Musician

Sasha Spielberg’s desire to tell stories runs in her genes. Both parents’ greatly involved in the film making process, it comes as no surprise that Sasha has found a creative outlet of her own through music. Originally invited to add vocals to her brother Theo’s musical endeavour Wardell, and then Just Friends – a collaboration with Nicolas Jaar, Sasha now explores a musical solo project under the name Buzzy Lee. At a time when she feels inclined to turn her focus inward, “take off her shoes, take off her face and stop trying to make everybody laugh”, Buzzy Lee marks the challenge to bravely face herself and reveal her vulnerabilities. Perhaps in attempt to peel the daughter-of-director layer off. All of which she does whilst being incredibly funny and down to earth.

Tara Mayer

A historian with a background in museum research and curation, Tara Mayer is known for reading artwork and objects as fluently as she does texts. For over a decade, she split her time between Paris and London and a few years ago she settled in Vancouver, where she currently works in the Department of History at the University of British Columbia. In a profession known to cultivate an introverted and single-minded commitment to intellectual achievement, Tara has been forging a wider path.

We know of few academics who’ve achieved such success in balancing the life of the mind with the nourishment of their own creative pursuits, wellbeing, and family. Her native Maui serves as a frequent and beloved retreat for family holidays and it’s here that we accompanied Tara for an afternoon swim with her daughter. We’re very excited to share these images and Tara’s rituals for life and wellbeing.

Mari Giudicelli, Designer + Model

Shoe designer and model Mari Giudicelli grew up in Brazil with her mum and grandma, which inspired her love of handcrafts. She went to art school in Rio de Janeiro, and then packed her bags for New York when she decided she wanted to make wearable art. After studying at Parsons, FIT, and taking a specialist footwear course, Giudicelli dove into the world of shoemaking.

Her signature, laid back Leblon mules quickly gained fans around the world, allowing her to expand her namesake collection into a serious operation. We stopped by her Williamsburg apartment down by the river to ooh and ahh over her shoe collection (naturally) and talk about her rituals.

Driven to investigate the idea that the human digestive gut is a central hub for both societal and emotional cues, New York-based Lexie Smith realises her findings through a multitude of artistic outlets. By creating a combination of historical breads, delicately sculpted wooden tools and curating a space of culturally disturbing newspaper headlines, Lexie feeds her fascination with the relationship between our internal organs and our psychological state.
