Formulation Chemist & Product Designer

Kyra completed her 4-year Bachelors of Product Design at the University of Canterbury, beginning with a year of Foundational Engineering followed by 3 years of Formulation Chemistry to acquire her major in Chemical Formulation Design.

Her specialty is in the Science of Cosmetics; this covers skin and hair physiology, properties of botanical extracts, colour/fragrance design, toxicology and allergenic responses, natural extraction/ purification, microbial safety, perfumery, and sustainability in the cosmetic industry.

Over her studies, she developed a range of cosmetic products and brands. This includes topical solutions to soothe COVID-19 related skin concerns, naturally-derived colour for lip and eye products, anti-acne extracts from kiwifruit, and custom perfumes.

Alongside her studies, Kyra was awarded a Research Scholarship with the New Zealand Biomolecular Interactions Centre. Here she worked with sustainably sourced proteins to develop a range of patented commercial products; including non-polluting hydrogels for wound healing, high-protein food solutions, and industrial bio-degradable adhesives.
