Morning Infusion: Kawakawa Tea

Sustenance

22 - 11 - 24

In Māori mythology, kawakawa is believed to have been the only plant gifted directly from Io the supreme Māori god. Highly medicinal, kawakawa is one of Aotearoa's most precious resources and sacred offerings.

Our healing infusion combines the earthy, evergreen flavour of kawakawa with a punch of zest — best experienced first thing in the morning.

Packed with some major healing and anti-inflammatory properties, this tea is excellent for soothing digestion and cleansing the blood.

Ingredients

3-4 kawakawa leaves — be sure to pick the emerald green leaves with small holes, this means the leaf is juicy and ripe with stronger medicinal properties. Only take as much as you need.
2” fresh ginger root
Slices of lemon

METHOD

Boil a pot of water.
Finely grate the ginger root. Slice the lemon.
Pour boiled water into a teapot, and add fresh kawakawa leaves and ginger. Leave to steep for 3mins.
Add a slice of lemon to your cup, and pour in the freshly brewed kawakawa tea.

It is correct protocol to return the kawakawa leaves to the plant from which you harvested so that they can be incorporated back to where they came from.
