Spring is here, and along with the blooming flowers and longer days, comes the unavoidable reality — it's time to clean. Yes, we know, the thought of spring cleaning is about as exciting as watching paint dry, but hear us out...

Let’s be honest, the only thing worse than cleaning is having to redo it because your products just don’t cut it. So, as you muster the motivation required for a seasonal spruce-up, keep in mind: we’re not here to make cleaning fun [who are we kidding?] but to offer you a helper that's effective, yet without harsh chemicals and unnecessary expenses.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon cream of tartar
  • 2 teaspoons [10 ml] liquid castile soap
  • 1 teaspoon [5 ml] water
  • 10-20 drops [about 0.5 – 1 ml] peppermint essential oil [or other essential oil of choice]

Method

Combine baking soda and cream of tartar in a small bowl.

Mix soap, essential oil and water together in a glass, then slowly pour into the bowl.

Whisk vigorously till the mixture forms a paste.

Add more water if needed — a little at a time to help loosen the mixture.

Store in an airtight container to prevent the paste from drying out, leaving some air space in your container to allow room for the mixture to expand.
